Room Resurrections for 2010
It catches my eye all the time and no matter what long line I’m standing in I find a home DIY magazine that seems to be staring back at me.
We all want to renovate, remodel and glam up our homes but unless you’ve been unaffected by the economic woes of American greed you’re just looking for a change like the rest of us; but there are a few transformations that don’t cost much.
| • A can of paint | • New picture frames |
| • An abstract throw | • New window treatments |
| • New lamps | • An area rug |
| • Candles | • New tablecloth |
| • Plants or Floral arrangement | • A Vase or Sculpture |
There are many inanimate objects that bring life to a room like a beautiful floral arrangement or new picture frames that demand attention. We often seek dramatic effects that are expensive but small items can become a large focal point that creates conversation and evokes emotion for your home.
In most cases we often become oblivious to the original beauty of our rooms – in laymen’s terms we get bored; the same furniture, same style, and just the same ole, same ole. This doesn’t mean we always must change the entire look; we can just add something extra to bring life to the environment and stimulate our senses.
Color is the most sought-after effect to change the ambiance of any room. Just one wall splashed with red can change your thought pattern; combined with a few black picture frames in various sizes and you have yourself a brand new attitude.
Perhaps a can of paint and some elbow grease is not that appealing to you – not a problem because new window treatments can have the same affect. Curtains, wood blinds, honeycomb shades are all inexpensive options. Pricing will vary depending on where you shop. If you choose one of the larger retailers you can spend under $50 for 5 windows to purchase simple honeycomb light-filtered or room-darkened shades. Spend under $100 to buy wood blinds. Or, if you’re looking to spend a bit more you can choose one of the specialty stores.
We would all like to call up the fancy commercialized businesses to come re-decorate and take care of glorifying our home-sweet-home but DIY projects can be accomplished in a weekend for under $100 and many times under $50.
